Mason United Methodist Church
Location: Mason, Ohio
Description
A vibrant and growing congregation at Mason UMC undertook construction of a new and enlarged worship space in 2009. Inclusion of, or expansion / renovation of an older pipe organ in their former worship space proved unfeasible, leading the church to look at various digital organ possibilities. Funds for the purchase of a new Allen Q-390, three manual Quantum organ---the largest of Allen's 3-manual organs---arrived quickly. The organ includes a series of 26-multifunctional speakers above and behind the chancel area, covered by a large white scrim. The installation also included a custom dolly, allowing the console to be moved to the center front of the chancel area for special music programs.
- The 26 Allen specially designed speakers were positioned to exemplify a pipe organ array of pipes that speak along the central axis of the church. Each manual division (great, swell, choir and solo) speaks through its own segregated bank of speakers, just as a pipe organ would.
